Best of 2009

It is that time of year that I want to sit back and think about my 2009 reads, reflect on what I reviewed, and come up with what I believe were my favorites of the year. To keep all things far, I only evaluated those books and stories that I have reviewed. There are many books that I have read, but have not yet written a review for yet. These will appear in next year's edition. So, without further ado . . . drumroll please . . . my BEST OF 2009 . . .

General Fiction: The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly
General Nonfiction: The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
Young Adult: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
Children's Picture: Little Skink's Tale by Janet Halfmann

And, because there simply were others that I did not want to leave out, here are a few of my HONORABLE MENTIONS . . .

Duck! Rabbit! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal & Tom Lichtenheld
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
Dark Worlds: Project 31 by Zack Daggy

And, just for fun . . . If I had to choose just one book to hold the title of THE BEST BOOK OF 2009, the winner would be . . .

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

What was your BEST BOOK?

  1. I love The Book of Lost Things! I need to re-read that some time soon. I think my favorites were some classics that I read for the first time -- Pride and Prejudice, Rebecca and Bleak House.

  2. Kristen . . . I definitely think The Book of Lost Things is worthy of a re-read! I just finished listening to Pride and Prejudice for the first time too. I actually have mixed feelings about it! Hopefully, I will have my review up soon!

  3. Tif, thanks so much for choosing Little Skink's Tail
as your favorite children's picture book read in 2009. I am so honored!

  4. Janet Halfmann . . . You are so welcome and thank you again!! I can't wait to see what else will be coming in the future!!

  5. This is hard, but one that really pops in my mind is Yancey's The Monstrumologist. I HATE horror books, and yet was so intrigued by this one.

  6. Ms. Yingling . . . I've never heard of this one and actually enjoy horror. I'm going to have to add this one to my list!! Thanks for the recommendation!
