Fairy Tale Fridays Returns!!

Special thanks to my personal faery friend T for the button art!

Four years ago, I brought you the original Fairy Tale Fridays!  Since then, I have seen a few other bloggers bring forth a similar feature, but none that was quite the same as what I did way back in 2010.  During the Fairy Tale Fridays run, I examined a fairy tale every Friday.  Sometimes, it was a classic tale from the Brothers Grimm or Hans Christian Anderson.  Sometimes, it was a tale from around the world.  And, sometimes, I would change it up with a little Aesop Fable or a film.  Over these last few years, I have still read fairy tales, classic and modern.  However, I have missed talking about them on a regular basis.  There is no way I can manage another weekly feature, but a monthly one I can definitely do.  And with that decision came the return of Fairy Tale Fridays, almost exactly four years to the day of the finale of the original feature!

To kick off the return, I wanted to start off with talking about my favorite fairy tales, classic or modern.  I have listed my favorite top ten, in no particular order.
  1. Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm
  2. Little Red-Cap (aka Little Red Riding Hood) by the Brothers Grimm
  3. Rapunzel's Revenge by Shannon Hale
  4. Strega Nona by Tomie de Paola
  5. The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
  6. Fables by Bill Willingham (graphic novel series, including the spin-offs)
  7. Cinder by Marissa Meyer
  8. Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pearson (series)
  9. The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly
  10. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum
  11. (Honorable Mention)  The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling

Did you see that?!?  I had a hard time even narrowing it down to ten!  Is it cheating by including the entire series of some books?!?

I truly adore a good fairy tale or fairy tale retelling.  I look forward to bringing out my classic tales to begin revisiting them on a regular basis.  And, I would love to have you join me!

Next Fairy Tale Friday:  March 7, 2014

Are you in?  What are your favorite fairy tales, classic or modern?  Do you have any tales that you would like to see featured or discussed?

  2. Yea! So glad you're bringing this back, as I love learning about new-to-me fairy tales! I don't think I have a favorite tale, but do enjoy the ones where the girl saves herself instead of waiting for Prince Charming.

    1. Alexia561 ... I love strong female characters in fairy tales who are strong and can hold their own! I'm looking to really focus on tales that are new to me as well. I hope to not repeat anything I even did years ago.
