BBAW: The Meaning of Book Blogging

In honor of Book Blogger Appreciation Week (BBAW), today's topic is to discuss the meaning of book blogging.  Though book blogging can mean a wide array of things to many, for me it is community and support.  Let me explain . . .

Back in the day, more than five years ago, I started this blog to simply keep track of my books and slightly hoped that others would chat with me about them.  Since then, book blogging has grown exponentially, creating a wonderful community of people around the world that I have discovered are lovers of literature just like me.  Throughout the years, some bloggers have stayed and others have only been around temporarily.  This medium has introduced me to a wide variety of people that I have grown to call friends, people who not only can relate and commiserate with my obsession with towering stacks of books, but also who have provided amazing support during both the good times and the bad.

Book blogging for me does not stop there, however.  I believe that blogging has opened up new possibilities to me -- or rather, opened my eyes to my real desires of moving my writing into the open forum in a variety of ways.  My writing has allowed me to put books into hands of others (i.e., giveaways and a book drive for a local children's hospital) and in the last year, it has even helped bring in a little income thanks to freelancing.  It has also slowly provided me with confidence to explore my writing in different ways and is assisting in making my dreams more of a reality.

Book blogging has been my rock over these last five years, the one stable thing I can turn to in a world with constant change and chaos.  Nothing beats being able to turn to fellow bloggers to chat about books after a long day or simply giving me a boost when it's needed in reading or writing.  For me, book blogging is here to stay for a while longer.  It means too much to me to let it go quite yet!

Before I close out for the day, I want to take a few minutes to thank a few fellow bloggers for their unending support through the years, whether it may be in the traditional sense or by simply being an inspiration.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

(I know this is cheating, but I didn't want to forget anyone!)

What does blogging mean to you?  Which blogs should I add to my Reader to continue in the support and inspiration?

  2. Tif, thank you and the feeling is mutual. So many changes over the last few years, huh? When I sit back to reflect, I'm blown away sometimes. Also, it's been a joy to watch the writer in you blossom. I love your confidence! Although I am enjoying the here and now, I am excited about the future. We have some good times ahead!
