Tommysaurus Rex by Doug TenNapel

I have to be honest upfront.  I am a fan of everything I have read by Doug TenNapel (Cardboard, Ghostopolis, Bad Island).  He has an outrageously creative imagination and paralleled talent with his artwork.  I recommended TenNapel's work to my son and he devoured the books mentioned above.  When I saw Tommysaurus Rex at the Scholastic Book Fair, I knew I had to buy it for my boy.  He was so kind to let me borrow it, but requested to have it back as soon as I was done.  He just had to read it again!

Let me tell you a little about Tommysaurus Rex . . . Ely is your average young boy that loves his dog, Tommy.  Unfortunately, he loses Tommy and he gets sent to stay with his grandparents on a farm in the hopes of helping him to deal with his loss.  While out exploring one day, he happens to find a giant T-Rex and embarks on an adventure of a lifetime trying to train him to live among the people.

TenNapel has done it again.  He provides a wonderfully creative story with a great message and all wrapped up in a beautiful piece of art.  I recommend you read this one as well as share it with the younger ones in your life.  It's 100% worth it!  The best part is that we own this one.  I just have to convince my son to let me borrow it again!

Have you had the pleasure of meeting Tommysaurus Rex?  How about experiencing any of TenNapel's work?
