Monday Maunder: Bringing Out The Boxes

The time has begun.  The boxes have been brought out and I have begun the process of packing yet again.  Which means that my list of things to do has increased exponentially as I prepare to change my address with all the different people that need it, prepare my kids' records to be transferred (both medical and school), and ensure that all is ready to go to move to a new home in a new state AGAIN.

This move is the fifth one in nine years.  Each time, I have moved to a different state, sometimes many states away.  I am tired of moving and am keeping my fingers crossed that this is the last big move in a very, very long time.  I want to set down roots and actually bring my books out of all those boxes.

One of the things that I am determined to do better this time around is keeping my blog active during the time that I am on the road and getting settled.  Last year, I only posted a handful of times while we moved and then hit the road.  In previous moves, it was similar.  This time, I'm aiming to be more organized and schedule reviews, discussions, and guest articles ahead of time.

Amidst all the cardboard chaos, I am still reading!  I need the time to relax after all the physical work of lifting and packing boxes!  I finished reading The 13-Story Treehouse by Andy Griffiths this last week.  I am also in the middle of What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty and listening to The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker as well as in the final chapters of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling with my kids.  I don't have as much time to read, but I will take what I can get these days!  I need the escape!

What books have you escaped into this last week?  Do you have any big plans this summer?

  1. I really admire people that move regularly. I do it so infrequently (been in the current house for 11 years and the apartment before that for 7) that it now frightens me. I try to think about moving every so often though just so that it is never not an option if a good opportunity ever arises.
It seems like having a few books going while packing would be a good idea. You can pick the right tale to give yourself a well-deserved break and escape the stresses for a bit. Good luck going forward!

    1. Kristen M. ... I wish I moved infrequently! I'm tired of living out of boxes these days!! Though I will say that the nice perk is that we purge things on a regular basis so we don't have to move so much stuff!

Thank you so much!!! I'm excited to be moving back to the mountains!!

  4. Good luck! And I'll be hoping for your sake that this is the last move for awhile too! Like how about 23 years! (I can't believe we've been here that long. Wow.)

    1. Suey ... Wow!! I dream of being in one place that long!! Of course, I think I would have a tendency to hoard stuff more though if I did. Now, I purge things on a regular basis (except for the books)!

  6. Just reading about boxes made me shudder...still recovering from my own move. My blog suffered the most during the packing phase and reading is the only thing that helped me maintain my sanity. Well, pizza helped, too. Good luck, break a leg, and all that jazz!

  7. Good luck with the move! I love setting up a new house, as it's a clean slate and the possibilities are endless! Of course, I usually wind up decorating the same way I did in the last house, but the possibilities are there! *L*

    1. Alexia561 ... Thank you! I'm not really that great with decorating, so my house seems to look the same in every place I have lived. BUT, I do like the possibilities of the clean slate!

  8. Poor you! I am so sympathetic. I have moved six times in the last six years -- though a much smaller move than yours because I have no kids and very little furniture! -- and it's just so stressful. I hope that you get well settled in to the new place and don't have to move again for a long, long time!
