The read-a-thon is set to run for 24 hours, starting tomorrow morning, October 12 at 7:00 AM (times vary based on location). Mini-challenges will be hosted throughout the event, many complete with prizes.
I will NOT be participating the full 24 hours. I have a couple of writing workshops that I hope to attend in the morning. I have a husband and two children that will sporadically need my attention (though I may try to get my kids involved this year). In the past, I have strived for as much as the 24 hours as possible. This year, I am being more realistic. If I can get in at least 6-8 hours of good reading, I will be happy and consider this event a success.
Here is a little of what I will be working on throughout the day . . .
Finishing up Doctor Sleep by Stephen King (for the #sleepalong).
Diving into another volume of Fables . . . or more!
And, diving into these as my mood and time suits me.
I may or may not participate in the mini-challenges. I may or may not post updates here on the site throughout the day. I will post updates on Instagram, Tumblr, and Twitter. And, I will do a wrap-up post on Sunday with the details of how much I actually was able to read.
I'm hoping with a change in my attitude and approach to the read-a-thon, I will consider this round to be more successful. Keep your fingers crossed for me and send some good reading vibes my way tomorrow.
Are you participating in Dewey's Read-A-Thon? What is on your reading list for the weekend?
You got some great books lined up. Good luck with your workshops!
ReplyDeleteCiska van der Lans ... Thank you!
DeleteI'm glad you decided to join us! Realistic expectations are good, and your stack is LUSCIOUS. I loved 20th Century Ghosts, Fables, etc.
ReplyDeleteAndi ... I can't wait to get to them today!! I'm event tempted to see if I can pick up more Fables today at the library when I'm there this morning for my writing workshops!
DeleteSounds like a very sensible approach and doable. Great that you are in.
ReplyDeletevikk simmons ... Thank you!!
DeleteYay! Glad you decided to join. I like low-key participation. I don't usually manage more than 6 hours even when I try hard! I start having too much fun with the social networking part...
ReplyDeleteJoy's Book Blog
Joy ... That is a good point about the social networking! I tend to get caught up in conversations too!!
DeleteDefinetly take time for 20th century ghosts! Netgalley has the GN of one of the stories right now: Thumbprint :) good luck!
ReplyDeleteFICTION STATE OF MIND ... I've been wanting to read this one forever! I had no idea that another GN was coming out too. I'm a huge fan of his Locke & Key series!!
DeleteI'm approaching things pretty much the same way. :) Great list of books!
ReplyDeleteMonika ... Yeah!! I'm glad I'm not alone! Happy Reading!
Deleteyou do what you gotta do
ReplyDeleteThe RaT starts at my bedtime so I'm hoping to stay up a little late then get six hours in at the end.
I like your list of books
Book Dragon ... Good luck with your reading too! You are probably sleeping right now, so Happy Reading when you wake up!
DeleteWhat kind of writing workshops? I always wanted to go to one. I'd love to hear about them.
ReplyDeleteAnd no worries I think about the readathon. I think I participated fully only once, my first one in 2009, and since then it's been less than brilliant. I always seem to have something going on the weekends they are on. However, I'm gonna try really hard to make this one better than the last few!
Becca Lostinbooks ... There is a book festival in my area this weekend with lots of different workshops. I'm about to head out and probably go to two. I will post about them later this week hopefully, so be watching for the info!
DeleteGood luck on your reading today too!! We can do this together!! :)
I like how you have a theme for your stack! Great books. Hope you read lots today!
ReplyDeleteAthira ... Thank you! I only got through a couple, but I will take it!
DeleteI hope you're having a great time with the read-a-thon so far and with all of the other fun things you want to do :)
ReplyDeleteDoingDewey ... Thank you! I did have a great one!!
