A Conversation with Khaled Hosseini

A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend an event featuring Khaled Hosseini, author of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. I have had the opportunity to attend many author events in the past, and I can say that though this event was a bit different in format, it still ranks as one of my favorite events that I have attended!

Hosseini was interviewed by a local political science instructor. He was asked many questions, from advice on writing and getting published to the parallels (if any) that exist between his first novel and his own life to even his current views on the political background. His answers were very intriguing and I truly admired his modesty, sincerity, and his honesty. Here are just a few things that were discussed that I wanted to share with you . . .

  1. Did you know that Khaled Hosseini attended medical school and practiced medicine in the field of internal medicine until just recently? He wrote his first novel while practicing medicine! He would wake up early in the morning and write before heading off to see patients. Being the spouse of a man currently in medical school and soon to be a doctor himself, it brought a new appreciation to his accomplishment!
  2. Hosseini's second novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, is currently in pre-production! We can expect another great movie to come from this amazing author!
  3. Hosseini recently wrote an article in The Washington Post (click here for the original article) regarding the presidential election campaign. If you have not yet read it, I highly recommend that you do so. He provides a very unique perspective that is very worth listening to!
  4. The author is currently working on his next project, but preferred not to divulge any details at this time. Whatever it may be, I will definitely be reading it!
