Happy Monday!
Today, I am beginning a new writing schedule. The last couple of months, I have struggled with finding my groove, so I decided I needed to implement a more structured writing schedule to help get my groove back. That means that I will spend certain times during the week focusing strictly on the blog, and then there will be certain times completely devoted to my other writing projects. The more I think about it, the more excited I get. Because, I think it can help me with focusing more on my reading in the evenings as well. Which brings me to what I really wanted to talk about today . . . my latest reading updates!
Here we are in the middle of March, and at the time that I am writing this, I have officially completed twenty (20!) books this year. Wow! A good chunk of them have been graphic novels/comics, but there have also been a handful of audiobooks and print books as well.
In fact, I have recently completed two audiobooks that I have really enjoyed: Bossypants by Tina Fey (absolutely hilarious) and Songs of Willow Frost by Jamie Ford (beautifully tragic). I will share more detailed reviews in the weeks to come, but I just had to give them a quick shout-out now.
I also recently finished some great graphics that have really stood out: American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang and Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. Both of these were memoirs, but completely different in so many ways, and yet both so impressionable on me.
That leaves me with my current reads. I decided to jump on board (a little late) with the #gangstercats readalong of Pet Sematary by Stephen King. This is actually a re-read for me, but it has been sooooo long since I read it that I don't remember much about it besides the very basic plot. I have not shared a lot of my thoughts while I have been reading so far, but reading what everyone else has to say is very entertaining.
My other main read is The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen. This is my first book by Allen thanks to so many recommendations from fellow friends and bloggers. I have only just begun, but am enjoying the main characters of this one so far.
The final books by my side are On Writing by Stephen King (such an amazing resource!) and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (still reading this one with my kids).
If my year continues in reading as it has thus far, I have to say that 2015 may just turn out to be a fabulous year in the books!

Songs of Willow Frost has been on my nightstand ever since Jamie Ford visited here at the beginning of LAST year! Some day, I'll read it! How's the writing thing going? I haven't bugged you about it like we joked, but I can. :)
ReplyDeleteSuey ... Songs of Willow Frost is what got me doing that bit of research that we talked about! And, the writing thing ... so far, the set schedule is helping. I'm heading to the library today to help myself focus!
DeleteI've changed my reading habits this year 1) not doing the goodreads challenge, 2) trying to read books of my bookshelf before buying any more (not always working, but.....) . I've hit the 20 read mark too
ReplyDeleteThe bookshelves are over flowing onto the floors now, so I really need to get rid of some of the physical books. Unfortunately, some of the ones I've read recently are too nice to let go, so I need to be more clever somehow!
It does mean I get to read some of the physical ARCs I've had recently, including "The A to Z of you and me" (lovely) and "The Ice Twins" (started this morning), both from the publishers.
nordie ... Ugh! I really need to work on reading all those books on my shelves too! The sad part is that sometimes I can't tell how bad it has gotten because I have them all stored in boxes at the moment. Out of sight, out of mind, right!?! I've quit accepting review books for a little while until I can catch up ... though I don't accept a lot to begin with which sort of helps.
