Monday Maunder: Bout of Books 12

Welcome to 2015!

Today was my first official day on my new adventure and not going back to work at my (new) old job.  I felt like I did a lot of running around and a lot of snow shoveling and a bit of celebrating for my boy's birthday.  I have such a huge long list of things that I have been neglecting that I plan to play major catch-up this week.  BUT, not without a good chunk of reading!  In fact, I have signed up for another round of Bout of Books and I couldn't have asked for better timing.

What is Bout of Books?  Here's what the organizers have to say . . .
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 5th and runs through Sunday, January 11th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 12 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team

During this round, they are not requiring us to set goals, but I like to give myself something to work towards.  Here is what is on my pile for the week . . .

Two books (my current reads) are not pictured:   The Scorch Trials by James Dashner and The Ape House by Sara Gruen (audio).  I may also try to dabble in the book that I have been reading with my children, but have taken a longer break than expected - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.  And, last but not least, I am hoping to spend some good time in catching up with all the blogs that I have been missing out on the last few weeks.  My Feedly Reader currently stands at 619 posts.  I'm hoping to get that down to a more manageable number by the end of the week and comment along the way.

I will also be working on my usual monthly/yearly wrap-up posts to go live later this week and maybe even early next week.  I usually have them published at this point, but life has been so chaotic that I simply have not yet had the time.

Are you participating in Bout of Books 12?  What are you looking forward to reading this week?

  1. I'm conflicted on the "no goals" thing for Bout of Books. On the one hand, some people can't separate goals from pressure, even when it's supposed to be just for fun... so I understand the hope that this will make those people just not set goals at all and therefore stop getting all mopey about not meeting them.

But then today I was trying to make my blog rounds... and without the goals linky, it was just so HARD to find posts to comment on! It's always hit or miss, as I just kind of click some of the linky posts at random. But so many sign-up posts (my own included) are little more than the blurb that it just got old after a while.

I suppose after today it won't make a difference, but that was an effect I definitely hadn't thought of when they first announced the change.

    1. Charleen Lynette ... Such a great point that I hadn't even thought of! (I'm a little behind in my blog reading, but am hoping to visit some today.) I like to set goals for myself, but don't get mopey about not meeting them. It's supposed to be fun, and as long as we get in a bit of reading, I can't complain.

  3. 619 posts?!? Whoa...I've weeded out my Feedly (and Inoreader) recently so I think I have about 30 blogs that I follow regularly. It's helped me...

...that looks like a good pile to start with. Hope you have fun this week with your reading.

    1. Bryan G. Robinson ... I desperately need to clean out my reader. I have discovered that I simply have too many and I tend to only comment and read certain ones. Maybe I will clean it up a bit while I am catching up on reading them!
