Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse #1) by Charlain Harris

I have heard such good things about the Sookie Stackhouse series that I knew I had to give it a try.  I did not know a lot about the actual story line before opening the pages, but I knew it involved vampires and other paranormal aspects.  That was enough for me.

Sookie Stackhouse seems to be the run of the mill waitress in a small town bar, but she brings a little something extra to the table.  She calls it a disability, but many others consider it a gift.  She lives in a new world where laws have been passed to recognize the existence of vampires because the undead want to mainstream back into society.  Sookie meets one of these so-called mainstreamers, and her life and her gift take on a whole new meaning.

Dead Until Dark will not change your life.  It is not a literary masterpiece.  What it is, however, is FUN!  It's a quick, relaxing read with characters I enjoy - a gentleman and a strong female lead that does try to hold her own, even in a world that is not her own.  I plan to continue with the series.  With another upcoming move, I need a good story I can enjoy for complete relaxation purposes and this is the series that I will be returning for just that.

Are you a fan of Sookie?  What do you think of the series?  (No spoilers please!)

  1. I was really surprised when I liked the first book of this series. It just sounds so corny when you hear about it, and then when I read it, I was kind of wowed that it was actually good. I've read the first five, but I only really liked the first three.

    1. Maureen Beatrice ... I definitely recommend this one. Have you heard of the TV show called True Blood? It is based off of these books. I haven't seen the show yet, but I've heard good things. I will check them out when I get a bit further into the books.
