Literary Link Love: February 2014

It's time for a little Literary Link Love ... the post in which I share all the fun links I have distributed via my social media sites, all summarized here in one place!  And, just like last month when I kicked off this new feature, I have some extra bonus links for all my fellow bloggers.  Enjoy!

Are you a fan of YA or wondering where to begin in the YA world?!?  If so, I highly recommend this awesome flow chart for "green reads."

Someone was bored and used their imagination to create a website for the Ministry of Magic.  I cannot express how much I really love this!

Can you guess the classic novel from its first sentence?  I took this little quiz and somehow scored 11 out of 17 correct.  I'm not sure how that happened since I haven't read a majority of the books!

I know the Super Bowl is long past, but these tips may still come in handy during a multitude of other upcoming events in your life.

Some of the biggest news stirring the pot this last month was when JK Rowling announced that Hermoine should have ended up with Harry.  I have so many mixed feelings about that announcement.  Most days I tend to ignore this latest development, despite understanding her logic.

Bookstores for readers are paradise, but these eighteen bookstores were ranked the best in the world.  I have visited two, so only sixteen more to go!

Rebecca at Love at First Book shares a fun bookmark tutorial.  I can't wait to try this one with my kids!

Cuteness alert!!  Babies re-create famous books.  Need I say more?

If you are a fan of legal thrillers, then check out this video and the titles that are available at a discount until the end of this month (only a few days left)!

Suey talked swooning over at Book Bloggers International.  Trust me when I say it is swoon-worthy!

Charleen shared her thoughts about the need for more platonic relationships.  I would love to see more platonic relationships.

Legos + Literature = Awesomeness!

Last, but not least, this article made me HOT, HOT, HOT!  It started with "I did think it a shame that adults were reading them (rather than just reading them to their children, which is another thing altogether), mainly because there's so many other books out there that are surely more stimulating for grown-up minds."  It only goes from bad to worse to ugly from there.

Andi shares Five Simple Strategies to Make Blogging Easier.  After just celebrating her 9th blogiversary, I think she has learned a few things along the way!

As a blogger, do you find yourself stressing about your numbers?  READ THIS.  Every blogger should read this actually.

Which link do you love the most?  What was some of the most exciting news you read on the web this month?

  1. I haven't read any of Rowling's adult works and although the HP books weren't considered lit fiction, they were enjoyable and got lots of folks reading, both kids and adults alike. I tend to think that the people who have bad things to say about her are just jealous of her success.

    1. Ti ... I love HP and I thought Casual Vacancy was good (not great). I really think that it is important that people are reading, not what they are reading. And, I agree with you that I think people like this person is just jealous. It's just so sad that she has to be so judgmental and jealous publicly.

  2. I actually liked that Hermoine and Ron ended up together, and don't think it would have worked as well if she got together with Harry. And thanks for linking Andi's post about making blogging easier! Mine is still very much a work in progress....and probably always will be! ;)

    1. Alexia561 ... Me too!! I also was curious what would have happened to Ginny if Hermoine entered the picture. I liked Harry & Ginny together.

Andi's post is so good, isn't it?!?

  3. Hahahahaha, the Super Bowl link made me laugh. Before I learned to love football, that would have come in handy! And I can still keep it in my back pocket for sporting events I truly don't care about (like baseball, ugh).

    1. Jenny @ Reading the End ... Football has grown on me over the years, but I will admit that a number of years ago I did try this at a super bowl party. My husband told me I was crazy to bring my book to the party!!

  4. Bookmarked The Ministry of Magic site. Awesome!

    I scored 10 on the quiz. =O)

I subscribe to Rebecca's blog so I saved that post in my Instapaper. I'm going to make those for sure. Definitely some Christmas ones to send to bookish friends in Christmas cards.

Note to selves: As aspiring authors, if (strike that) WHEN we get published, let's not come back later and say this character is this and that character shouldn't have done that. Annoying!

Speaking of annoying...that article that miffed you, triple miffed me. She, my friend, is listed as one of the possible definitions for ASSHAT.

Great links! I'm loving this. Thanks!

    1. Michelle Miller ... I am so glad that you are loving this!! There is so many great links out there not to share!! :)

Speaking of WHEN we get published ... that means I would actually have to be writing again and that is rarely happening. I really need to change that and get back into a writing schedule! When I get there, I will definitely not talk about what my characters should have done. That's like playing the "what if" game in real life and I just don't do that!! The past is done and over with and they only thing we can do is move forward!!

  5. So many great links here. A few I've read and I few I haven't. A few I probably won't, but at least they're there...if I want to read them. Sometimes these things (link love posts) can be overwhelming, but I try to remember to take away what I can and not worry about the rest. This isn't a job, after all. :)

    1. Bryan G. Robinson ... I think link posts can also be fun, but I also only skim them for those links that I think I would enjoy more than the others. I really don't think that all links are for everyone and that readers will click on every single one. BUT, the ones that do stand out for readers can create great conversations!
