Saga: Volume 1 by Brian K. Vaughan

Brian K. Vaughan, the creator of Y:  The Last Man, takes his readers on another epic adventure with Saga.  In his latest creation, he takes us into a world of science fiction, one filled with an inter-galactic war.  As fighting surrounds everyone, two very unlikely lovers fight to bring their newborn child to a safe and peaceful place.  However, they find it to be a difficult task when multiple groups are on the hunt for the AWOL soldiers and newbie parents.  Thankfully, they meet a very unlikely ally along the way, but will that be enough to get them to safe grounds?

Saga brings us non-stop action in a world filled with war, but it also brings us love and laughter.  Tensions rise, and yet the two main characters ground us with a single comment.  Monsters, mayhem, and mad good illustrations and writing has this reader excited to move on to Volume 2 and the next adventures.

Saga recently won the 2013 Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story.  After reading it, I can totally understand why it would receive this award.  It is a well-deserved honor.

Have you been introduced to Saga?  What did you think?

  1. Huzzah! This one is on the tippy-top of my wishlist. It's probably not the graphic novel I would usually go for, but the reviews I've seen are amazing.

    1. Andi ... This is definitely not one I would typically go for as well, but I ended up enjoying it. Vaughan adds such fun wit to his stories that I adore!

  2. Yay, glad you liked this! I wasn't wild about it in conception -- a friend pressed it on me, but his taste in books is not always mine -- and then I ended up loving it.

    1. Jenny @ Reading the End ... It was not one that I would normally gravitate to on my own, but I really enjoyed it! Read it all in one sitting!!

  3. This was recommended to me by the guys in my local comic store (whilst we were in the pub drinking cocktails, but that's another story!)

I have it on my shelf, but have yet to read it, perhaps I should up it up the TBR list?

Anyway, one of the "Saga"s (I think Volume 2) is also shortlisted as one of the Goodreads best 2013 read nominations

    1. nordie ... Definitely recommend pushing it up on your TBR list! I remember seeing Saga on the Goodreads list, but didn't notice which volume. I'm trying to get my hands on Volume 2 right now though!
