The End of Readers Imbibing Peril (RIP) VIII

Back at the beginning of September, I committed to the Readers Imbibing Peril (RIP) VIII challenge, one of only two for the year.  Today, marks the end of this challenge, so it is time to review what exactly I was able to complete over the two month period of perilous reading.

I had set the goal of reading a minimum of four books, committing to Peril the First.  I am happy to report that I read many more than the minimum!  Here is the full list, with pertinent links if you are interested in reading more of my thoughts.  (More reviews coming in November of those not linked!)
  1. The Shining by Stephen King (check out the read-along posts here)
  2. Confessions of a Murder Suspect by James Patterson
  3. Confessions:  The Private School Murders by James Patterson
  4. Saga by Brian K. Vaughan
  5. Doctor Sleep by Stephen King (check out the read-along posts here)
  6. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
  7. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
It is likely that I can also count the many Fables graphic novels that I read in this list as well, but I have decided not to.  I don't want to overwhelm you with all my awesome reading in one post!

I was really hoping to dive into the read-along for The Historian, but that just did not work out.  I will have to save this chunkster for another day!

Last, but not least, I also participated in Peril on the Screen.  I was able to get in some really great movies over the last couple of months.  Here is a quick list of what I watched, with a few of my thoughts on each . . .
  1. The Lost Boys:  A classic film from my childhood.  Despite the horrible special effects, I still enjoyed this movie even after all these years!
  2. Darkness Falls:  You will never look at the tooth fairy the same again.  This one will have you jumping!
  3. The Walking Dead (Season 3):  I had to catch up on last season before getting to watch the current season.  I liked it, but I also really noticed that in this season the show strays much further from the books than previous seasons.
  4. The Walking Dead (Season 4):  This new season is crazy!  More zombies, more sickness, more tension.  At this point, it has veered so much from the books that it is its own entity.  I will still continue to watch though.  I just love it so much!
  5. The Shining:  I will have a whole post coming on this one, comparing it to the book.  Jack Nicholson is good crazy, but the book is definitely better than the film in so many different aspects.
  6. Shaun of the Dead:  How have I not seen this movie until now?!?  So good.  Absolutely hilarious.  Simon Pegg is brilliant.  I need to own this one!
  7. World War Z:  Brad Pitt in a zombie movie, but the zombies move so much faster than in any other movie I have ever seen.  That alone is freaky!  I was pleasantly surprised by this one.  Maybe someday I will read the book.
I am sure I actually saw more movies than this that would fall into this category, but I will leave it at that for now.  All in all, I consider RIP VIII to be a big success.  I can't wait for next year!

Did you participate in RIP VIII?  How did you do?  What were some of your favorite reads/watches?

  1. I had WWZ out from the library, but I had to return it unread because I just ran out of time and couldn't renew it anymore. Planning on picking it up again this week, assuming a copy's available.

    1. Charleen @ Cheap Thrills ... I have not read WWZ, but I did enjoy the movie. It was not quite what I was expecting, but it was still good. I look forward to hearing what you think when you can get your hands on a copy again!

    2. From what I've heard it's very different, so you could love one and hate the other. It's been on my TBR for a while, though. *crosses fingers*
