ON READING

I finished reading Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman this week.  This one was not quite what I was expecting, even despite the fact that I think I've actually seen the movie years ago.  I'm curious to see how book club goes with the discussion of both!

I also started reading Use Your Words:  A Writing Guide for Mothers by Kate Hopper.  I've really enjoyed reading books about journaling these days, but I'm still not sure what I think of this one.  I will keep you posted!

What did you read this week and what is up next?

ON BLOGGING

This last week, I posted a review of The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky as well as a giveaway of The Killing Room by John Manning.

The most exciting thing here this week is that Share a Story, Shape a Future is coming soon!  This is one of my favorite annual events in the blogosphere and this year they are celebrating their fifth year of spreading literacy love!  I encourage you to click on over and check it out!

What is your bloggish news this week?

ON WRITING

Little writing this week, but I did do a bit of research.  An idea that has slowly been percolating in my mind is beginning to take bloom.  One of these days, writing will begin to take form!!

How was your writing this week?

ON LIFE

This week entailed a LOT of packing and organizing.  We have decided to do some drastic downsizing for the upcoming moves.  I have been really having to decide what stays and what goes.  The last few days, I have begun going through our children's books.  It is harder than I thought it was to cut them back!  My son has narrowed down a good stack, but I was hoping to cut at least 50%.  I think we are maybe at 25% at this point.  And, that was just his shelves.  This doesn't include my daughter's or the big one in the "reading corner."  That will be on my list of things to do this week and I will need all the luck I can get!!

Do you find it difficult to cut back on your collection?  Any tips or suggestions?

  1. I was so disappointed when I read Practical Magic. I saw the movie first and loved it and then...the book seemed to have absolutely nothing to do with the movie. It was all Literary. Not what I expected.

When I'm weeding out books, I seriously think about how likely I am to want to read it again or lend it out to people. That helps me. I can't imagine going through children's books. I get too sentimental! Good luck with everything!

  2. Introverted Jen ... I'm really wondering what I will think once I see the movie! I think I'm going to wait to review it until I have both freshly under my belt. I will say that the book was not really what I was expecting.

Sentimental is what I'm getting too!! It's so hard!! I really haven't even touched my own stacks yet!! I don't even want to think about that (though I have to very soon)!!

  3. Moving books and bookshelves is so hard when there are so many! I understand all the work that entails! It's even worse for me now since I started blogging since my last move and have accumulated so many more books! Scary to think about moving them all in the future!

I have written zip, zero, zilch. I need a writing personal trainer to kick my ass into gear every so often. Procrastination and ADD do not go well with the want of writing something longer than a blog post. *sigh*

I am very interested to know how Practical Magic surprised you. As you may remember from last week, it is one of my fave movies.

    1. Becca Lostinbooks ... We have moved a lot in the last ten years, and this one is going to be the worst yet when it comes to my books!!

What a great idea about a personal trainer!! I need one of those too!!

I will definitely keep you posted on Practical Magic. I will probably post next week or the week after.

  4. I watched Practical Magic and loved it. Never considered reading the book though. I usually do one or the other, not both, because I'm disappointed a large percent of the time.

As far as my reading, it's going GREAT! Cleared two books off my shelf and settled on one. Also, I'm gobbling up audio books. Reading life is good again.

    1. Amateur Novelist ... I do like to watch both, but have learned to treat them as separate entities! I used to get very disappointed!!

  5. Oh man, I am SO busy getting ready for DWJ March. It's going to be super, freaking awesome! I don't think I've put this much effort into the blog in a while. It feels kind of nice to have something to be excited about.
And even though we're not moving any time soon (that I know of), I've been having that downsizing feeling and have started just getting rid of things. It feels wonderful and maybe one day I'll have a nice, tidy house, even if it's still just this one!
