Monday Maunder: December 10, 2012

Last week, I was confused!  This week, things are starting out on a much better foot!!

ON READING

This last weekend, I had my (somewhat) monthly book club meeting to discuss Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith.  Sadly, I still have not finished the book, but I am almost done!  We had a very lively discussion regarding the concepts and thoughts about the book, then we watched the movie.  I have to say that I was not impressed with how much the movie strayed from the book and I am enjoying the book much more.  I love the mash-up between real history, from a well-known and interesting man of our country, thrown together with some blood-sucking fiends!  It will not make my favorite list of books for the year, but it has been fun nonetheless!

What will be next?  I'm thinking Walking Dead:  Book Eight by Robert Kirkman, maybe starting Jack of the Fables by Bill Willingham, or diving into one of my many other books that are sitting on my nightstand.  I really have no idea!

ON WRITING

Writing was better this last week!  I have completed two pieces for my freelance gig (can't wait to share these with you!) and have worked on at least one more review.  I'm hoping to get a lot more done this week though.

My highlight of the week for writing was attending another journaling club hosted by one of my local libraries.  The group is small, but I love to hear what others have written, to commiserate around writing, and spend a night amongst others who just love to write for writing sake!

ON LIFE

Life.  Not a lot to say here.  It's the holidays and life is crazy with extra events scheduled, shopping for gifts, prepping for company to visit, etc.  The one thing on my list that I simply do not have a handle on this year is my holiday newsletter.  For the past seven years, I have sent a specialized newsletter.  It is not your run-of-the-mill letter, but one that looks like a little small town newspaper.  I include "feature" stories of the year, pictures, sidebars with highlights, and have even been known to throw in holiday word searches or crossword puzzles.  It even opens like a newspaper!  This year, I am simply not feeling it.  It has been a rough year and I have not had the energy or the heart to write it.  My husband finally convinced me to go forward with it, but now it will end up going out late ... well, later than I usually send it.  Ugh!  I usually love this little project of mine and I absolutely love receiving cards and letters in the mail this time of year (really, anytime of year!).  Despite my grumpiness, this will be one of my other projects this week.  Let's hope I can pull it off without too much grumpiness showing through!

Last, but not least, I am overdue in saying CONGRATULATIONS to my multitude of winners for my recent giveaways:  techeditor, rhonda, Anita, Becca, and Steve.  Be watching for more to come this week!

Tell Me:  What is on your reading and writing agenda?  Do you send out holiday cards or newsletters this time of year?

  1. Your newspaper idea is cute! To be honest, I always plan to send Christmas cards and then they end up being New Years' cards. :) I think that's going to be the case this year too.
