Today I Read!

Today is Dewey's Read-a-Thon!  This little event is where participants devote 24 hours to reading (or some portion of it) all at the same time all around the world.  I have not participated in this event for a couple of years, but this year I decided to try it again.  I have been desiring a day of reading and this was the perfect opportunity!

The read-a-thon began approximately three hours ago and I woke up on a good start. I immediately hopped out of bed, unlike your typical Saturday morning, and immediately finished Emerald Atlas by John Stephens, reading the final 50 pages that I simply could not keep my eyes open for last night.  I have not yet picked up another book, but I will later today.  My son's football game was rescheduled for today, so I the bulk of my reading will begin this afternoon.  In the meantime, I will be popping onto Twitter (@tiftalksbooks) to comment and hopefully, cheer on fellow participants (#readathon).  You can follow along too by clicking on those hashtags!

When I do dive back into reading, here is what is on my list today . . .

Locke & Key #4:  Keys to the Kingdom by Joe Hill

Fables #5:  The Mean Seasons by Bill Willingham

Kingdom Keepers #2:  Disney at Dawn by Ridley Pearson

Kingdom Keepers #3:  Disney in Shadow by Ridley Pearson

I may add others to this list, like the rest of the Kingdom Keepers series or something else completely random off my shelf.  Let's just start with these for now!

As for updates . . . I may or may not post updates here today.  I really would much rather spend the time reading or post my updates on Twitter.  We will see how today goes.  I will definitely post a wrap-up tomorrow or in my Monday Maunder post, however!  In the meantime, I will leave you with answers to the first introductory questionnaire . . .

1)  What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

I am reading from the Midwest!  I no longer make my location a secret, so to be particular, Saint Louis!

2)  Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

I cannot decide between the latest Locke & Key or Fables!  I absolutely love these two graphic novel series, for completely different reasons, and I cannot wait to see where the characters take me this time.

3)  Which snack are you most looking forward to?

I totally forgot to get special snacks, so I have no idea!  I will probably just be scrounging today!

4)  Tell us a little something about yourself!

I am a blogger that has been writing here at Tif Talks Books for almost 5 years (next month!).  I also write as a freelancer for Walrus Publishing's website and work full-time at a local university.  I love to spend time with my family, read, write, and promote the love of literacy in any way that I can!  In fact, I am going to leave you with a bit of self promotion and encourage you to take a peak at a couple of my recent projects:   Spreading Literary Love:  A Book Drive for Shriners Hospital for Children as well as the annual Armchair BEA, which I am one of the an original founders!

5)  If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what's one thing you'll do different today?  If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

I explained a bit of this above, so let's just say that I'm looking forward to a day of much-needed escape reading!!  :)

I am now off to read!!  While I do so, be sure to tell me what's on your (reading) agenda today?
