Bone: The Final Trilogy by Jeff Smith

With the Bone series comes much praise.  Personally, I struggled getting into the first trilogy.   The second trilogy improved in my eyes and encouraged me to finish the series.  The final trilogy was well worth the read and is definitely the favorite for me!

In Ghost Circles, the bad guys look to win the battle, challenging the Bone family more than ever before, both physically and in loyalty.  Thorn begins to truly understand her powers and formulates a plan to defeat the Locusts.

In Treasure Hunters, royalty returns to their home city to find the people divided.  And, Phoncible (aka Phoney) once again brings out his scheming ways, but may hold the answer to finding the key in winning the war.

Crown of Horns, the final adventure, brings the ultimate battle to a close, finds Fone Bone in an ultimate ultimatum, and finally reveals the entire mystery behind the dragons.  The last novel in the series is the longest and by far the best, creating the journey through the first eight editions completely worth it!

The Bone series may have started out slow and may take a bit in picking up the action, but it definitely ended on a high note.  If you can make it through the first trilogy, the story will begin unraveling and will likely keep you reading to the end.  Fone Bone was my favorite character from the start, but by the end, I think even the scheming Phoney found his way into my heart ... just a little!

Have you followed the Bones to the end?  What did you think of the series?
