Monday Maunder: January 16, 2012

For today's Monday Maunder, we go straight to business . . .

ON READING

I am still reading The Count of Monte Cristo as I type this.  In fact, I am currently on page 1026 of 1462 pages. I am really enjoying this story, but I must tell you that the story is VERY detailed and I cannot wait to see how the story ends. Hopefully, by the time I maunder next week, this book will be complete!

I am also still listening to Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson.  I am about half-way through this one and all I can say is this author has an amazing way of writing!  She describes things in such an unique, yet beautiful way, even despite the topic.

Lastly, my son is loving Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone!  We are almost at the end of Chapter 3, but he is requesting to read this book every chance we get.  I love that he is asking questions, that I can give him a bit of hints of what is to come, and every conversation is accompanied by a twinkle in his eyes.  I only hope that it continues!

ON WRITING

This week, writing has been horrid!  I am not even going to go into further detail!

ON LIFE

Life has been busy this week, but in the little free time that I did have, I spent my time playing Words with Friends!  Being a lover of words, I have become addicted to this game!  It is so much fun!!  BUT, I do need to find a way to spend more time writing my own words instead of just playing them!

On another note, I also have signed up with some friends to do a Biggest Loser Challenge.  Today was my first day on my new menu plan, and it has already proven to be difficult.  I don't like to go drastic, so I am just working on cutting back on the soda and carbs (less breads and pastas) and increasing the greens.  I will also phase in an increased workout schedule (somewhere).  I'm not sure how it is going to go, but I do know that I'm ready to get rid of this baby weight and more!

What are you reading this week?  Did you have better luck in writing?  How about life in general?

  1. Words With Friends is awesome! Very addicting though, so I try not to have too many games going at once. ;)

Am working on reading 3 books right now, but none of them are very exciting. Am determined to finish though before picking up my next read!

Good luck with your Biggest Loser Challenge!

  2. The Count of Monte Cristo is an amazing book, but it is a tough one to get through. My husband tried to read it for three years.

I listened to Wintergirls last year. It still haunts me. Anderson is an amazing writer. I think I enjoyed it more than Speak!

    Have a great week!

  4. I'm klpm17 on Words With Friends if you find yourself wanting to waste a bit more time. :)

I'm so happy that your son is loving HP! I think I will give it a month or two more and then I'll see if he wants to try book two. I have a feeling that he will. He asked to play the Harry Potter Lego game on the Wii the other day!

  5. Wish you the best in the weight department. I've had the biggest issue for over a decade and only last year did things start to change. I've gotten on what I'd classify as holistic hormone therapy. I'm taking enzymes to regulate my hormones and have been having awesome results. My manic side has also benefited. :)

ANYWAY, one of the results is weight loss. I've tried--and I mean busted butt trying to exercise and diet, but could only lose to a certain weight and then stop. A few months of that and I gave up. This time, I'm only exercising moderately--walking a mile each non-holiday and eating smaller portions. I try to watch my sugar intake, but I don't have those monster cravings anymore. I'm back down (weight-wise) to where I was when I was almost killing myself with exercise and eating rabbit food.

Guess what I'm saying is I feel your pain big time.

  6. Alexia561 ... I'm currently up to 10 games. Is that considered a lot?!? I hope your next read blows you away! And, thank you for the good luck! I think I need it! :)

Michelle Shannon ... I am really enjoying The Count so far, but I really can't wait to complete that one. What an accomplishment!! :) I have not yet read Speak, but I really think I need to. The audio of this one is amazing!

    Tracy ... Almost there!!

Kristen M. ... As soon as I charge my phone, I will totally start a game with you! Love this game!! My son just got the Harry Potter Wii game! He keeps wanting me to play with him, so I may just have to!

365andMe ... OMG, the cravings are horrible! And, the fact that I'm still hungry half the time! Ugh! This week has been hard, but I've heard that the first week is always hard. I'm hoping it gets easier!

  7. I think getting through the Wii game will take longer than reading all of the books and watching all of the movies! I think my time spent playing is listed at like 16 hours and I'm like 11% through the game. Yikes! I could be playing it for the rest of my life. ;)

  8. Kristen M. ... I haven't tried the game yet, but I have watched my son. I've been so tempted to try it out for myself, but I'm so worried I will get hooked!!
