Readers Imbibing Peril (RIP) Challenge VI

I have been sitting on the sidelines the last couple of years as I watch Kristen over at We Be Reading participating in the RIP Challenge, feeling a bit jealous that I always seem to miss out on it.  It is guaranteed that I am always finding more books to add to my piles after this time of year; however, as I have recently discussed, I cannot buy anymore books this year.  Therefore, I went searching through my mounds of TBR and simply took a few pics of books that could fit this challenge.  But first, let's read what Carl at Stainless Steel Droppings has to say about this event . . .

Every September 1st through October 31st for the last 5 years I have hosted the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril Challenge, affectionately known as the R.I.P. Challenge. I began this reader event, I blinked, and now I am hosting this for the 6th time. Wow, that is so hard to believe.
The purpose of the R.I.P. Challenge is to enjoy books that could be classified as:
Mystery.
Suspense.
Thriller.
Dark Fantasy.
Gothic.
Horror.
Supernatural.
The emphasis is never on the word challenge, instead it is about coming together as a community and embracing the autumnal mood, whether the weather is cooperative where you live or not.

There are two simple goals for the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril VI Challenge:
1. Have fun reading.
2. Share that fun with others.
As I do each and every year, there are multiple levels of participation (Perils) that allow you to be a part of R.I.P. VI without adding the burden of another commitment to your already busy lives. There is even a one book only option for those who feel that this sort of reading is not their cup of tea (or who have many other commitments) but want to participate all the same.
R.I.P. VI officially runs from September 1st through October 31st. But lets go ahead and break the rules. Lets start today!!!
Multiple perils await you. You can participate in just one, or participate in them all.
I'm going with Peril the First Level, which states the following:

Peril the First:
Read four books, any length, that you feel fit (my very broad definitions) of R.I.P. literature. It could be Stephen King or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Ian Fleming or Edgar Allan Poe…or anyone in between.
Now, here are a few pics of what I may be choosing from (if you have suggestions, please suggest away!) . . .

Here are the books that I have read:
  1. Gimme a Kiss by Christopher Pike
  2. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
  3. Deadline by Mira Grant
  4. Hit List by Laurell K. Hamilton

  1. That's a lot of books to choose from! With a quick glance at your shelves I am all for Carrie Ryan and Scott Westerfeld. Oh, and is The Gargoyle? That was a wonderful book. I also mildly enjoyed The Host. Oh, and I LOVED The Thirteenth Tale. One of my favourite books ever.

  3. A "few" of the books you could read? Wow, you've got a nice pile to choose from. I've read Pretty Monsters. Loved some of the stories and wasn't as thrilled with others, which is par for the course with most short story collection. I am wanting to track down her Stranger Things Happen collection for this year's challenge.

Great to have you off the sidelines and in the mix with us this year. Thanks for taking part!

  4. Lots of great books to choose from. I liked The Cell more than some of King's other books, as he can be inconsistent.

    Good luck and have fun!

  7. So happy to have you join in on the challenge this year! I loved The Thirteenth Tale, Rebecca and The Gates. I'm really curious about The Night Circus. Liked Pretty Monsters for the most part. Would totally read Thirteenth Child if I had it. Am going to be rereading Spellbinder this fall and then the sequel which just came out. But I'm going to vote for Bunnicula! I love that book! I read it probably a dozen times when I was a kid. Now I want to read it again. :)

  9. Kailana ... It looks like I definitely need to read The Thirteenth Tale! That one has been mentioned a lot! I'm really looking forward to the others you have mentioned too! Do I have time to read them all?!?

DesLily ... LOL!! Seriously, another mention of The Thirteenth Tale! I think this one is going to be a must!

Carl V. ... Thank you so much for hosting! I will be watching to see if you find Stranger Things Happen and hear more of your thoughts.

Alexia561 ... King can definitely be inconsistent! One of my all-time favorites is by him (The Stand), but another one of his is one of the very few movies I preferred the movie to the book ... actually didn't care for the book much at all (Dreamcatcher). I'm excited to read The Cell now though!

Jenners ... LOL!!! I'm really thinking it is! This isn't even the half of my pile!!

Michelle ... Thank you! Maybe we can read at least one of the books at the same time?!? Holler if you are interested!

Kristen M. ... I think I'm definitely reading The Thirteenth Tale. I picked up The Night Circus last night, so that's a definite too. I'm trying to convince my son to read Bunnicula with me! I'm hoping he caves!! I'm so excited to finally be participating this year!!

reviewsbylola ... I definitely have a good batch to choose from! Thank you for stopping by!

  10. Z and I are reading Sorcerer's Stone together right now (awesome, right?!?) but maybe I can convince him that Bunnicula should be our next book too. I think he would love it! I hope your son reads it with you too!
