Sunday Synopsis: February 13, 2011

First and foremost, let's get the holiday greeting out of the way!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

We celebrated the love a little early this year, and yes, my kids got books in honor of the occasion!  My daughter received Dora's Valentine Adventure and my son received Fly High, Fly Guy!

Now, let's move on to a bit of business . . . I have not been around much this past week and I have a feeling this next week is going to be the same.  I simply have not had much time to write or read with some projects that have been on my plate.  I'm hoping to devote a few evenings to these tasks this week and get back on track by next week.  And, to be honest, I am in the middle of some really good books and I want to spend some more time reading them!  Nothing is a better stress relief to me than getting lost in a good book!

Which books am I getting lost in the middle of?

  • The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
  • Room by Emma Donaghue

What are you getting lost in this week?

  1. Happy Valentine's! I'm rapt in some new picture books, the Follow the Line books by Laura Ljungkvist and a chapter book, Dog Gone by Carole Poustie.

  3. I'm in the middle of some good books too. As part of my re-read of Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series, which started last year with The Eyre Affair, I'm now reading Lost in a Good Book, plus I'm reading two non-fiction books. I'm also trying to catch up on a few reviews of books I finished recently.

  4. I am not sure if you can get hold of Dog Gone as it's from an Australian children's writer, Carole Poustie. But I am loving it. And Follow the Line? Brilliant. Check out her site to see the artwork. She lives in USA now but the scandinavian heritage really shines through. These would be such great books to use when teaching visual literacy or art appreciation.

  5. I just realized that while my laptop is still giving me fits about these pop-up commentary windows, I can check in with your blog on breaks at work just fine! Yay.

I'm between books at this moment. Just finished A RELIABLE WIFE by Robert Goolrick for our office book club, and am about to start A CHARMED LIFE, Liza Campbell's memoir about growing up in Cawdor Castle (Macbeth's stomping grounds) for myself, as well as needing to start FLEDGELING by Octavia E. Butler for an on-line book club.

  6. Tracy . . . I'm really thinking I need to check out Fforde's books! I've heard such great things about them!

The Book Chook . . . Thanks for the recommendations! I will definitely check out these books and see if I can get my hands on them!

Talekyn . . . I'm so glad you popped in!! I've heard really good things about A Reliable Wife. What did you think about it?

  7. Fforde's books really are very good, Tif, an alternative universe where literature is revered, where characters can jump out of books and into the real world and vice versa, and where literary detectives exist. The books are also very funny.
