Catch-Up: List of Books

One of the other posts I have to catch up on is the weekly meme hosted by Rebecca over at Lost in Books . . . The Book List.  I absolutely love this meme, but have just not had the time to participate.  Therefore, I have picked a few of the lists that I was bummed to have missed and include them all in one catch-up post!!  Enjoy my little lists and feel free to share your lists here or using the links to Rebecca's original posts!

Books That Should Be Made Into Movies

  1. Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon:  One of my all time favorite books that includes action, love, intrigue, mystery, and so much more!  Of course, it would have to be done completely right or it would be such a bummer for me!
  2. Wicked:  The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire:  I know, I know . . . this one has been made into a musical (and I am going to be seeing it for the first time next month!!) . . . but wouldn't it be awesome as a movie too?!?!
  3. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien:  This is such a fabulous book!  In fact, I think it is soooo much better than the famous trilogy that follows it!  I've been hearing rumors for years that this one will be made, but I have yet to see anything official.  Let's hope it becomes reality some day, preferably thanks to Peter Jackson!!

Books That Take Me Back to High School
  1. Odd Girl Out by Rachel Simmons:  I agree with Rebecca on this choice!  It takes me back when it talks about the deceitful way girls will treat each other.  So very sad, but so very true!
  2. Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews:  When I was in high school, I got on this kick of reading V.C. Andrews, and it all started with this book.  Thankfully, this reading spurt did not last long!!
  3. The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck:  I remember reading this book in high school and simply being annoyed with it!  The one thought that stands out in my mind is . . . "What does a turtle have to do with the Depression?"  Some day I would like to re-read this book!  I have a feeling that I would appreciate it much more today!

Favorite Childhood Books
  1. Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman:  Who doesn't love this book?  I have my own very well-loved copy today, bought a new copy for my children, and even found it in fabric book form, complete with a little birdie that can interactively journey through the book with you!  And, in case you are wondering . . . my favorite character is The Snort!!!
  2. Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss:  This is one Seuss book that does not get enough attention!  I loved finding all the wackiness on every page.  I still have fun with this one with my kids today!!
  3. The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner:  I cannot tell you enough how much I love this book!  I have re-read multiple times and will probably continue to do so!  What is better for a young child than the main characters who are completely self-sufficient, discover treasure in trash, and make a home out of boxcar?  Isn't this every child's dream?!?  :)

Favorite Book Covers
  1. Wicked:  The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire:  Yep, I do love this book . . . every single version that I have seen of it!  The musical version of the cover is gorgeous, but the original artwork is even better!
  2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling:  Yes, I love this series, but I think the cover of the final installment is the best!  I love the colors and the stance that Harry is taking!
  3. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins:  This entire series has amazing covers! I love how the progression has taken place on these covers and the final one gives me hope for last installment!

Books That I've Read Over and Over and Over . . .
  1. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling:  Is this one really any surprise?!?!  One of my all-time favorite series and my comfort read that I can always turn to!  I have lost track how many times that I've read these books, but I can tell you that I've recently re-read the first one twice in the last 5 months!!  I do love me a re-read!!
  2. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien:  I was in junior high when I first picked up this book and there has been multiple times that I have returned to it.  I love the adventures in this book, but more importantly, the camaraderie.
  3. For my final re-read, I truly cannot narrow it down to one title!  Therefore, I'm going to leave you with some final titles that I have loved to re-visit . . . Wicked:  The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire; A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein; The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner; The Stand by Stephen King; The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis; and soon-to-be re-read The Hunger Game Series by Suzanne Collins.  I do love my re-reads!!!

Whew!  Wasn't that fun?!?!  Now, hopefully, I will be participating more on a weekly basis instead of huge posts like this!  Would you add anything to these lists?

  1. Haha, this is awesome! You certainly did play catch-up!

You have made me want to read The Grapes of Wrath just so I can read about the turtle! lol

Are You My Mother? rocks, doesn't it? Loved it!

Thanks for including links back to my lists. You're so sweet, Tif.

    Great lists!

  3. I want the Wicked movie to be true to the book though. That's part of why I've avoided the musical! My sister, on the other hand, hates the book and loves the musical.

And The Hobbit is rumored to be casting now so let's keep our fingers crossed!

V.C. Andrews? I'm pretending I never read any of those. ;)

  4. Kristen M. . . . I've heard that the musical is not very true to the book, but I will find out next month first hand!! If it were to be made into a movie, I agree with you though. There's a reason why it is one of my faves, all the graphic details and all make it what it really is!! I really, really hope what you say is true about The Hobbit! That would totally make my day!! And, LOL about Andrews!! I was a little hesitant posting that one, but now one of my secrets are out . . . maybe I should write "NOT" behind it?!?! :)
