Another one of my favorite books of all time!!! Wicked takes the wonderful world of Oz and puts a little spin on it. We only ever hear about this place from Dorothy, or maybe even the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man, and the Scarecrow. We have only ever heard how evil the Wicked Witch of the West is; however, how wicked is she really? After reading this book, we have a totally different perspective of the witch, or better known as Elphaba as well as the Wizard and the whole land of Oz. We finally get to see and feel what it is like to grow up green! And, the multitude of colorful characters only add to the story. I highly recommend this read and this author!! Maguire is amazing!
I agree- by the end of this book I really liked Elphaba and felt sorry for her. I read the sequel to this one, Son of a Witch, and thought that it wad good as well. The last line of that book makes it worth the time to read them both. Two very great books!!! A little edgy at times, so be aware, but overall a really good book.
ReplyDeleteI liked the way Son of a Witch wrapped up--very cool! But, I definitely think it was pushing an agenda at times. And, I thought it might have been a little too much. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I wouldn't have constantly been reading into McGuire's innuendos... I probably even saw some that weren't intended by the author because I was on a constant defense!
