Life of Pi by Yann Martel

This book is one of the most thought-provoking books that I have ever read! I believe that some of it may have actually come from reading the author's note. I don't have the book in front of me (I've finally ordered my own personal copy!), so bear with me. In the author's note, there is a comment along the lines of . . . "If you do not believe in God before you read this book, you will after." With my current beliefs set aside, I am not sure if I can see how this relates. Plus, the first portion of the book discusses zoos and the benefits associated with them. I was so completely confused by the time that Pi was stranded on the boat, then the end completely threw me for a loop, but I continued with it. In fact, by the time that I finished it, I was so bewildered that I could not decide if I actually liked the book! After much thought, I have decided that I really like the book, but I just need to talk about it more with LOTS of people. So, if anyone has some insight into this one, please share!

  2. I felt the same way about this book. I just had to keep reading it...but I guess I'm not smart enough to get all of the symbolism in it. What was up with the floating carnivorous island.

  3. I agree with the floating island . . . a little random! I can't wait to hear what you think jill! We will definitely have to chat about when you are done. You are welcome to borrow my copy as soon as I have it in my hands, but it may not be until after our get-together.

  4. I feel sheepish that I am just barely reading this post tonight. I got feeling guilty that I have not spent more time reading your blog since I have always meant to. You inspired me today and I have really enjoyed reading over your book list and reviews. It helped me to talk about this book today. We didn't even get to the carnivorous island question though? Eugie is right. What is up with that???
